Water softeners are devices created to reduce the hardness of water. Water hardness is caused by high levels of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium. These minerals can cause a number of problems, such as deposits in pipes and appliances, and rough skin and hair. Water softeners work by using a process called ion exchange. This involves a mate
